Plan 9 from Outer Space is a sci-fi/horror film directed by Edward D. Wood Jr. It is widely considered to be one of the worst movies ever made.

The movie

The titular Plan 9 refers to a plot by alien beings to conquer the Earth by re-animating the recently deceased, starting in the Los Angeles area. This plan is thwarted by a daring pilot, a military officer, and some local police.

  • Production of the film was dramatized in the 1994 movie Ed Wood.

The film became a RiffTrax On-Demand presentation in 2008.

RiffTrax Live

The film has been used for RiffTrax Live events, with one such event being released as a DVD. Many of the jokes used were the same as in the On-Demand version, but not entirely.

The version of the film used by RiffTrax for this event was colorized.

The event took place at the Belcourt Theater in Nashville, Tennessee with live streaming to over 400 other theaters across the country. The event was hosted by internet personality Veronica Belmont.

Additional features at this event included:

  • A musical performance by Johnathan Coulton
  • A performance of the Plan 9 from Outer Space theme song, led by Bill Corbett
  • A screening of short films by Rich "Lowtax" Kyanka
  • A riff of the short Flying Stewardesses
  • Prize giveaways
