Notes[]
- McClure's name was partial inspiration (along with actor Troy Donahue) for the name of the character Troy McClure on the TV series The Simpsons.
- There is no known familial connection between Doug McClure and Tipp McClure.
- During the 1980s, Doug McClure co-starred on the TV sitcom Out of the World, which also featured the voice of Burt Reynolds. He played a former actor. Originally, the character was best-known for having played a TV super hero (similar to Adam West), but this was later broadened to having been a more general heroic leading-man type (closer to McClure's own history).
- Doug McClure appeared in two episodes of the TV action-adventure series The Fall Guy which also included Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. One of these episodes also co-starred John Carradine and his sons (including David).
- Doug McClure is one of only a few actors to be portrayed as "himself" on MST3K (see also Steve Reeves and Hugh Beaumont).
